About Steph

Steph Mided (she/her) is a professional illustrator and author from the Chicago-land area. (She would tell you the exact town but you would probably go “What?” then she’d say “(insert town name again)” and you’d say “I have no idea where that is.” and she’d say “It’s about an hour out from Chicago” and you’d go “Ohhh! Chicago! The Bean place! Got’ya!”)

She received her Bachelor of Arts, specifically studying animation and illustration, first at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and then finishing her degree at Columbia College Chicago back in 2016. She has been working freelance ever since, making illustrations and comics for companies like Oni Press, Dropout (Formerly CollegeHumor), z2 Comics, and most recently Harper Alley.

Her debut graphic novel as both artist and author “Club Kick Out! Into the Ring” was put on multiple best of 2023 lists as well as receiving the Junior Library Guild’s Gold selection. CKO is all about finding your community when it’s taken away from you and the power of arts and athletics and how it can bring people together, something she takes to heart in her personal life with her love of all things music, comics, gaming, and even archery and basketball. She hopes people connect with her work and can see themselves in the colorful characters and are inspired to be creative and make connections in their own lives. Steph particularly loves writing and drawing stories that have women, queer, and non-binary characters, as she is a bisexual woman herself.

When she’s not drawing or writing, she’s most likely spending time with friends, curating the perfect music playlist, trying new recipes, learning Spanish, practicing archery, cheering for the Bulls despite their lackluster history as of late, and kissing her two cats soft lil’ foreheads repeatedly forever.
